Rear Cooling Pumps Fixture represents a half-automatized fixture with the purpose to ease the assembling process of Rear Cooling Pumps (RCP) on the Carbon Fiber floor of an Electric Vehicle (EV) and mounting the whole structure into a designated place in the car. The main feature of the fixture is to secure the position of the Carbon Fiber part of the EV floor so Parts of RCP can be mounted from different angles and to rise assembled parts up into holes on the car for future mounting and installation.
Systems of RCP Fixture are main movable frames with the possibility of being lifted for 500mm, attached rotating frame with clamps with 180° rotating angle, and SKF linear electric actuator with an adequate remote controller. The challenges were to ease the process of mounting so that one person can do the whole process which had been previously realized by four people because of the structure weight, shape, and position in the car. During the product development, points of fixation were changing, so rotating the structure was optimized to suit variable inputs. The aim of enabling precise positioning of the RCP relative to the car was to ensure easy mounting of the whole structure at a particular place. Precision was achieved with good handling, evenly distributed clamps, robust construction, optimized castors with a locking mechanism, and a powerful SKF linear actuator.
The main value this fixture provides is the safety of operation and ease of manipulation of heavy assembly. The customer gained the ability to put together RCP, have access from all directions and easily mount it on the car which was not possible without this fixture. Service of RCP is also possible because of this fixture. The testing of rotation, manipulation, and uplift was done with Carbon Fiber RCP carrier floor. Development and production with delivery were realized in 10 weeks.
